It sounds like a movie plot, but it happened in St. Louis
September 03, 2014

A holdup. A hostage situation. A standoff with police.

It all sounds like the plot of a thriller, but it actually happened in one St. Louis neighborhood.

Now, the person responsible has been sentenced for the crimes.

In June, Dwayne Jefferson pleaded guilty to robbery, armed criminal action and kidnapping charges for a 2013 robbery at a store in the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Dr. Blvd.

An employee and the store manager were locking up for the night when Jefferson approached them with a gun and demanded to be let inside. The employee ran outside of the store and called police but Jefferson held the manager at gunpoint and forced him to empty the safe.

Police surrounded the building and a standoff ensued. Finally, after almost 90 minutes, police talked Jefferson out of the store. He admitted he was also on the run from police in Kansas.

Officers searched the store and recovered a plastic bag full of cash and a loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun.

Thankfully, no one was physically injured.

Still, because of the serious nature of the charges, ACA Don Tyson recommended that Jefferson serve 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Tuesday, a judge sentenced Jefferson to serve 15 years in prison.
